Munich-born, Berlin-based producer and DJ Mechatok is connected with more than a couple forward-facing club music collectives. He released EPs in 2015 and 2016 on the Public Possession and Staycore labels respectively, and produced beats for vocalists Uli-K, Yung Lean, Killavessi and Rules for tracks featured on the crew’s 2016 debut compilation, *Bala Club Vol. 1*. Tapping into what he calls “melancholic euphoria,” Mechatok’s beats draw from chart pop and R&B harmonies and experimental electronic melodies found in dance genres like trance and happy hardcore, to meld them together into electronic compositions that antagonise long-held notions of what club music should sound like.
