Description
Loaded Lux is one of the most influential figures in battle-rap history. Even before dominating the _Smack_ DVD era as a grey-hoodied, unbeatable MC, the Harlem veteran built and hosted his own platform for street battles, Lionz Den, in the early 2000s. The genre grew from battles on the corner to TV programs (_106 & Park_, _Wildin’ Out_), feature films (_8 Mile_, _Bodied_) and sellout shows at huge venues all around the globe. After a six-year hiatus, Lux returned to the battle stage in 2012, and he's been killing it ever since. His catchphrase — "You gon' get this work" — became a hip-hop quotable, and with influential fans like Jay Z, Puffy, Funkmaster Flex, Eminem and A$AP Ferg, Lux is one of the very few battle MCs who is equally respected in the a cappella rap scene and the music industry. For this episode of Headphone Highlights, Lux breaks down some of his favorite battle verses of all time, going from Drake and Pusha T to Beanie Sigel vs.
