Based in Los Angeles, Helen Money is a cellist and composer. During her graduate studies, she was inspired by the experimental rock and avant-garde music of her youth, rather than the more conventional classical path. Inspired by the Chicago club scene and DIY gigs, and working closely with Jason Narducy as the duo Jason & Alison (under her given name Alison Chesley), and then as Verbow, she became Helen Money and collaborated with a wide variety of artists. She's worked with everyone from heavy metal and doom rock bands like Anthrax, Russian Circles and Disturbed to sonorous indie rockers like Broken Social Scene and inspirational figures like Bob Mould. As well as being a seasoned collaborator, Money has composed music for film, theater and contemporary dance; toured with bands such as Sleep, Shellac, Earth, Mono and Neurosis; and released solo albums, her most recent being 2016’s _Become Zero_ on the Thrill Jockey label.
