Felicia Atkinson could be described as a sonic explorer, but she’s also an explorer in the traditional sense — she’s an artist who frequently scampers around the globe in search of her latest inspiration. Traveling to places like Finland, Brazil, Mexico, Brittany and the American West, Atkinson collects sounds, objects and other diverse materials to fuel both her visual and sound works. Crafting music under her own name and the now-retired Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier moniker, she’s spent more than a decade issuing music that’s difficult to neatly categorize — abstract and experimental, she creates a listening experience that folds in elements of ambient, noise, poetry, sound collage, field recordings and more.
