Ren Schofield is one of the most hard-nosed producers out there when it comes to inciting electronic music with noise and saturated tape hiss — he brings a good deal of distortion to dancefloors worldwide, maybe even provoking a mosh pit. His Container project is an eye-opener for everyone who's lost their orientation in the slick, standard four-on-the-floor; Container's sound is rooted in grunge guitars and feedback freak-outs rather than step sequencers. Starting out in the underground scene of his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island, he's been using a very basic hands-on setup since his early days, to ground-shaking effect. For this Headphone Highlights show, Schofield picked a selection of his all-time favorites, tracks that inform the sound on Container's ongoing LP series on Spectrum Spools.
