Claude Speeed’s music may seem a world apart from the sweaty basements and greasy pubs where Scottish teenagers pick up guitars to earn their first musical merits, but that’s exactly the music that Stuart Turner grew up with, listening to and playing in those bands himself. Now living in Berlin and an active part of the growing experimental electronic music scene, Speeed’s intricate ambient music remains heavily influenced by the familiar, rugged fuzziness of his native land. So it is only natural that for this episode, he has compiled a playlist made up entirely of Scottish guitar tunes, performed by friends and by the bands that he and his friends were listening to back in the day. He may have left Scotland and embraced Berlin’s prevalent sound, but he has brought the music of his past with him.
