Brooklyn-based indie rock band Beach Fossils formed in 2009 as an extension of singer and frontman Dustin Payseur’s earlier solo project, but has gradually become a fleshed-out group that has gone on to create other bands within a similar sonic and aesthetic orbit, such as bassist John Peña’s band Heavenly Beat and drummer Zachary Cole Smith’s band DIIV. With five EPs and three albums to their name – 2010’s self-titled, 2013’s *Clash the Truth* and 2017’s *Somersault* – Beach Fossils have cultivated a dreamy style of lo-fi modern pop music that pulls influences from shoegaze rock bands, ‘60s surf rock melodies and ‘70s dreamscape guitar-playing, while also experimenting with a more aggressive, punk-rock sound (as heard on *Clash the Truth* most potently). Also self-releasing music on Payseur’s own label, Bayonet Records, Beach Fossils maintain a DIY sensibility that feeds back into their sonic palette.
