In the spirit of European solidarity and the heatwave that has us all in a firm grip, Germany’s DJ authority Gerd Janson gives it up for Italy’s breezy disco heritage. Appearing in DJ crates since the late '70s, the synth and accent-heavy machine grooves of Italo disco quickly crossed over from European shores to the house scenes in Chicago and Montréal. A comparatively short-lived genre with an undeniably large legacy, Italo disco spawned many affiliated trends, such as spacesynth and the Japan-tinged Eurobeat. In this episode of Risky Business, Gerd picks his favorites of all the Italo disco mutations, featuring acts like Klein & MBO, Nexus 21, Koto, Thai Break and Kano.
