Description
For one dizzyingly colorful decade, Prelude Records reigned supreme over every dancefloor around. The iconic disco and boogie label was founded in 1976 by industry vet Marvin Schlachter, and helped to transform the late '70s and early '80s with infectious grooves and an evergreen sound that continues to inspire today. Seen as a fad by most major record companies, Schlachter saw the infinite potential for dance music at a time when selling 12”s was a strictly underground affair. As Schlachter himself once put it, "I don't think the disco era ended! They may have changed the name, but they haven't in effect changed the fact that dance music, the club scene and such, still goes on.” In this episode of Risky Business, Gerd Janson puts together an all-wax mix of Prelude’s finest moments, featuring D-Train, Inner Life, Gayle Adams, Passion and, of course, Prelude’s erstwhile quasi-A&R man, Francois K.
