At first glance, Powell and Pangaea aren’t all that similar. Although both men are well established in the UK’s electronic sphere, the former injects bits of post-punk skronk and industrial noise into his technoid creations, while the latter has drifted from dubstep-tinged dancefloor experiments into a trippy brand of long-form techno. That being said, after years of limiting their output to 12”s, EPs and other abbreviated offerings, the two producers and label co-founders – Powell helps run Diagonal, while Pangaea steers Hessle Audio alongside Ben UFO and Pearson Sound – have both decided to put together full-length albums. With both LPs set to drop this week, host Shawn Reynaldo talks with Powell and Pangaea about their music, their pasts and exactly what went into their new LPs.
