In recent years, the world of bass music – or club music, if you prefer – has morphed, evolved and expanded at a seemingly exponential rate, prompting producers around the globe to cook up their own permutations of the sound. And despite the diversity of players in today’s club landscape, just about all of them would likely cite Nguzunguzu as an influence. The Fade to Mind affiliates have been twisting up bits of grime, hip-hop, dancehall and R&B with Latin and African rhythms for more than a decade, and with First Floor paying a visit to their hometown of Los Angeles this month, it only made sense for the members of Nguzunguzu to stop by for a chat. Also coming by is Damon Eliza Palermo, a Michigan-raised, LA-based producer who’s released a number of house- and disco-leaning records under the name Magic Touch.
