The world of electronic music is constantly evolving, and one trend that seems to have taken hold over the past year or so is an increased affinity for high-energy dance music. And while this tendency has taken many different forms, there’s little question that BPMs are on the rise, pretty much across the board. Apparently, faster tempos have even taken root in Vancouver, where hardware-driven duo Minimal Violence has cultivated an industrial-tinged trance and techno sound in a city that’s often celebrated for its woozy, new age house and disco grooves. Here the pair discuss their punk backgrounds, learning the “rules” of electronic music on the fly and their debut album _InDreams_, which arrives this week via Ninja Tune offshoot Technicolour.
