Technically, First Floor happens live from Barcelona all year round – it’s where host Shawn Reynaldo makes his home – but it’s not every week that the show broadcasts directly from Sónar, one of the preeminent electronic music festivals in the world. To mark the occasion, Shawn is joined by Ostgut Ton affiliate Marcel Dettmann, an artist who’s not only playing at this year’s Sónar by Night, but has also curated the latest installment of Dekmantel’s Selectors compilation series. Here, he talks about his love of EBM, industrial and post-punk sounds, discusses the curation process and shares his thoughts on what makes a good festival. Also stopping by for a chat is Ylia, a multi-talented Spanish artist who’s quickly established herself as one of Barcelona’s most reliable DJs since returning to the city just over one year ago.
