Of all the electronic subgenres that have popped up in recent years, few can match the rapid rise – and equally rapid backlash – of lo-fi house. Although its exact parameters were hard to nail down, there was undoubtedly a sudden crop of (often mischievously named) young producers churning out lovably rough-around-the-edges tunes with knowing nods to the dancefloor sounds of the ’80s and ’90s. The hubbub around lo-fi house has largely subsided, but one of its key practitioners, DJ Seinfeld, is still standing. A Swedish producer based in Barcelona who also operates under the names Rimbaudian and Birds of Sweden, his first LP, _Time Spent Away from U_, drops this week, prompting the fresh-faced artist to stop by and discuss his production techniques, along with the origins of the DJ Seinfeld project and his admittedly silly moniker.
