Growing up in Lansing, Michigan, Bill Converse incredibly began DJing at the age of 11, getting schooled in the art of Midwestern raving before he’d even started high school. After moving to Texas at the age of 15, however, he was forced to hone his craft in relative isolation, resulting in a unique artistic vision centered around slow-brewing hardware jams. Over the past year or two, that vision has garnered its fair share of attention thanks to the Dark Entries label, which reissued his *Meditations/Industry* cassette and has since released a number of records, including his latest album, *The Shape of Things to Come*. Here, Converse talks about his unusual music journey, his love of hardware and his thoughts on functionality. Also stopping by is Terrence Dixon, a veteran Detroit techno producer who has spent more than two decades releasing boundary-pushing records and avoiding interviews.
