The Red Bull Music Academy is more like a marathon than a sprint, but this year’s RBMA festivities have nevertheless been whizzing by. As we move into the second half of the 2018 Academy, First Floor is continuing its deep dive into Berlin’s electronic music landscape. This week, we’re joined by Avalon Emerson and Steffi, two skilled selectors who got their starts elsewhere but now call the German capital home. Avalon Emerson’s ascent over the past few years has been downright meteoric, with droves of clubbers flocking to her fun-loving DJ sessions and top-notch releases on labels like Whities and Ghostly International. Steffi got her start in the Netherlands, but has long been a staple of the Berlin scene, dropping releases on Ostgut Ton and her own Dolly imprint while mashing up bits of house, techno, electro and more in her sets at Berghain and beyond.
