With First Floor almost exclusively focused on new electronic music, it’s no wonder that our playlists are filled with fresh-faced talents. In many cases, these producers seemingly pop up out of nowhere, rocketing onto dance music’s collective radar with just a handful of tunes. Anastasia Kristensen is one such artist, a Russian-born DJ and producer who came of age in Copenhagen and has quickly become a beloved figure who happily combines techno with rave-ready sounds from decades gone by. This week, Kristensen is taking a big step forward with the release of her first EP, _Ascetic_. It’s arriving via Warp offshoot Arcola and finds the hotly tipped producer freely skating around genre boundaries while keeping her focus on the dancefloor. Here she speaks with host Shawn Reynaldo about her rapid ascent, her growing confidence as a producer and why there’s so much fantastic music coming out of her adopted hometown.
