Tommy Genesis is transgressive. Her hyper-sexualized lyrics and provocative music videos work against restrictive social norms, and her music – an intoxicating tincture of rap, pop and dance – disobeys genres. Habitual line-stepping comes naturally to the Canadian vocalist who, after a childhood education in classical piano, played in punk bands (and lived in a crowded punk house) while studying sculpture in Vancouver. It was there where, with the aid of the internet, Genesis met Father, Awful Records’ puckish leader. Following a few trips to Atlanta, she released her aggressive and forward-thinking 2015 debut, _World Vision_, which included production from Father and KeithCharles Spacebar. After a three-year wait, which saw Genesis release an EP with side-project baby.daddi (a trio with Wes Period and Ye Ali) and sign a contract with Downtown Records, she returned with the self-titled _Tommy Genesis_.
