Raised in New Orleans on the sound of marching bands and schooled in the ways of beat-making in his native South Side of Chicago, Anthony “The Twilite Tone” Khan has developed into a DJ and producer whose funky internal rhythm has had an outsized influence on contemporary hip-hop. After leading a dance crew in Chicago, he went onto collaborate with the rapper Common on some of his earliest records, and helped to bring hip-hop into clubs at a time when house music was king, building stylistic bridges between these two vital black sounds. As well as his work with Common in the ’90s, The Twilite Tone has produced for Kanye West, Pusha T, John Legend, U-God, Gorillaz and Rahzel, among others.
