Legendary soul and R&B songwriter Jerry Williams, AKA Swamp Dogg, is the ultimate icon of outsider soul. Frustrated by the ways of the music industry and inspired by the mind-bending techniques of '60s counterculture, Williams manifested Swamp Dogg as an alter ego that's as psychedelic, raunchy, and politically charged as he pleases. His debut album, _Total Destruction of the Mind_, was recorded with the original Swampers in Muscle Shoals in 1970 and has since garnered gold and platinum status (and countless bootlegs). Besides producing and self-releasing solo records, Jerry Williams managed acts like the World Class Wreckin’ Cru (Alonzo Williams’ electro rap troupe that famously started the career of Dr. Dre). Now in his late 70s, his hunger for musical adventures hasn't stopped — his _Love, Loss and Auto-Tune_, a baffling mix of software-enhanced Americana soul, was produced by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Ryan Olson of Poliça.
