Raised in Ohio, now based in Chicago, IL, Steve Hauschildt is an electronic music producer who has been involved in collaborative and solo projects, both as part of the synth- and guitar-centric trio Emeralds, which operated from 2006 to 2013, and under his own name, on labels such as Kranky, Editions Mego and Gneiss Things. His solo work is greatly influenced by analog hardware, such as the Prophet 08 synthesizer, as well as by experimental electronic styles that incorporate elements of the cosmic and industrial, from vocoder-laced new wave and steely krautrock to ambient techno and drone. 2016’s _Strands_ is his fourth full-length for the Kranky label, with a new album in the works for late 2018.
