Royal Trux is the American indie rock band comprised of Jennifer Herrema and Neil Hagerty, whose sound is as twisted as its story. Meeting and falling in love as teenagers in '80s Washington, DC, Hagerty was a guitarist in Jon Spencer’s group Pussy Galore; with Herrema as an eccentric, charismatic vocalist, musician and frontwoman, the mad ideas flowed. Combining garage rock sludge with Parliament-style funk and sci-fi noise, they found a steady home on the newly-founded Drag City label in the ’90s, with a 3-album stint on Virgin (the ridiculously lucrative result of the major labels’ post-Nirvana rush to sign anything remotely grunge). The group released several albums, toured the world and partied hard, before Herrema and Hagerty parted ways in 2001 to pursue solo projects. After a surprising reunion in 2015, the duo tentatively began recording new material; in March 2019, Royal Trux released its first studio album in almost 20 years, _White Stuff_, on Fat Possum Records.
