Rich Homie Quan already had several hits and a dance made viral by Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, when he released his debut album _Rich As in Spirit_ on Motown earlier this year. Six years ago Quan was among other Atlanta rap proteges like Migos and Young Thug, honing their voices within the confines of mentor Gucci Mane's studio. But he learned to set himself apart with a voice inspired by '60s soul, plus he committed to a boundless work ethic (he titled a 2013 mixtape _I Promise I Will Never Stop Going In_). So So Def founder Jermaine Dupri featured Quan in his "Welcome to Atlanta" remix "New Atlanta," and Birdman handpicked him for supergroup Rich Gang. Quan then followed this anointment with the two-times platinum "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)." _Rich As in Spirit_ is only a debut album by technicality — as his track record shows, Quan is on his way to veteran status.
