German electronic musician Kurt Dahlke is something of a polymath when it comes to crafting a signature sound that works across a variety of projects. Having garnered underground acclaim in the ’80s and ’90s as one of the found members of German EBM group Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, or D.A.F., where politically-charged lyricism merged with brute physical performance and thundering hardware sounds, Dahlke has developed his work in music, film and multimedia arts through composing soundtracks, studio engineering and working on solo music projects, the latter most notably as Pyrolator. Merging the industrial sounds of D.A.F. with more synth-pop and melody-driven electronica, the Pyrolator output has developed from the late ’70s to the present day, and has largely been released through Dahlke’s own record label and publishing company, Ata Tak.
