Okkyung Lee is a South Korean cellist, composer and improviser whose solo and collaborative work draws from multidisciplinary influences. She graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1998 with a BA in writing, production and film scoring, and earned her masters in contemporary improvisation from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2000. Lee moved to NYC that same year, becoming involved in the scene around John Zorn's venue the Stone — on Zorn's label Tzadik she released two of her early solo albums, followed by 2013's _Ghil_ on Stephen O'Malley's Ideological Organ imprint; her most recent record is _Dahl-Tah-Ghi_ on Norwegian Pica Disk, a local scene she with which has formed strong musical bounds. Lee’s work has appeared on dozens of recordings, taking from noise, western classical, jazz, and combining improvisational and Korean traditional music.
