Lil Keke first became known for freestyling on DJ Screw’s slowed-down Screwtapes in the mid-1990s, emerging as an early part of the Screwed Up Click. By 1997, he’d inked a deal with the local Jam Down label, releasing his debut "Don’t Mess Wit Texas" and the hit single “Southside.” Since then he has released numerous albums on a plethora of labels from Koch to Swishahouse’s TF imprint, building his own Seven 13 label along the way. In this Fireside Chat, Lil Keke goes into the details of making his latest album, _Slfmade II_, with Big K.R.I.T., his relationship with DJ Screw, younger hip-hop artists and the dynamics of Houston’s warring Northside/Southside in the 1990s (including the time he had to perform “Southside” at a club on the Northside).
