After learning classical flute as a child, studying art history at the Sorbonne and playing drums in the band Nidada in Mexico City, the artist and musician Lafawndah settled for a time in NY and LA, and is now based in London. Leaving her work at art galleries to commit to music full time, she collaborated with artists such as L-Vis 1990 and Teengirl Fantasy, and toured worldwide with Kelela. Her global ethos has shaped her solo project, which weaves together various threads of electronic music and experimental R&B. Her self-titled 2014 debut EP was recorded on and inspired by the French-Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, and her 2016 follow up, _Tan_, was released on Warp Records. Most recently, besides working on a new solo album and composing music for film and TV, Lafawndah travelled to Tokyo to work with noted Japanese avant-garde percussionist Midori Takada on a collaborative album, _Le Renard Bleu_, available this summer.
