It is a sign of a great artist when it's too difficult to describe what they sound like, and Kid Creole is one of the most difficult ones out there to explain. August Darnell, AKA Kid Creole, is armed with a potent concoction comprised of equal parts Cab Calloway, Trinidadian steel band and Studio 54; whether it be his disco big bands, solo productions or collaborations with genre-benders like Alan Vega and James Chance, Darnell always brings the energy of a large-scale revue to the music he creates. Kid Creole, who also sometimes operates under his real name, sat behind the boards for a dizzying number of recordings throughout the '70s and '80s, penning hits for Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band, Coati Mundi, Machine, and his aptly titled group, Kid Creole and the Coconuts.
