Bassist Laura Lee, guitarist Mark Speer and drummer Donald Johnson are Khruangbin, a three-piece band from Houston, Texas. Influenced by 1960s and ’70s Thai funk cassette tapes, Khruangbin's music (their name translates to “airplane” or “engine fly” in Thai) is steeped in bass-heavy psychedelics, surf rock and Tarantino-esque film soundtracks, with fuzzy wah-wah guitar, horn blasts and tonal melodies from the Thai folk tradition. Along with several singles and EPs, the trio has released two full-length albums, 2015’s _The Universe Smiles Upon You_ and 2018’s _Con Todo El Mundo_, both on the Night Time Stories Ltd. label; the latter record broadened their sound even further with elements of Caribbean, Indian and Middle Eastern music.
