Meet the heady prince of dark electronic pop. John Maus grew up in a remote town in Minnesota, where he developed an affinity for both punk rock and baroque music. Eventually he decamped to Los Angeles, where he was exposed to experimental forces — there he met his future bandmate and collaborator, Ariel Pink. Since then, Maus has performed with the likes of Pink and Animal Collective, recording a cadre of solo gems along the way, including *Love Is Real* and *We Must Become the Pitiless Censor of Ourselves*. Maus took an extended break from music to finish his PhD in political philosophy, but returned with his album *Screen Memories* in late 2017, followed by _Addendum_ in the spring of 2018.
