Description
As the duo Coldcut, Matt Black and Jonathan Moore are widely considered pioneers of the first wave of modern British dance music. Their production work pushed forward electronic remixes of pop and rock hits, and their deft multimedia sampling techniques used interactive visuals, 3D modeling and video cut-ups to create a new style of music videos. As well as releasing dozens of solo albums since the late ’80s, Coldcut founded Solid Steel Radio in 1988 (a DJ mix album series, label and radio station), and in 1990 established Ninja Tune, the legacy British electronic music label that introduced artists such as DJ Vadim, Roots Manuva, DJ Scruff, Bonobo and the Bug. Today, Ninja Tune has two sister labels, Big Dada and Ntone, and successful distribution deals with Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder and Actress’s Werk Discs labels. With decades of music production, label and radio work, Black and Moore of Coldcut are British dance music legends.
