Christina Vantzou is a musician and filmmaker of Greek descent originally from Kansas City, Missouri, who studied art in Baltimore and is now based in Brussels. She worked as one half of the audio-visual duo the Dead Texan, which released its self-titled 2004 album on Kranky.
Since parting ways with the project, Vantzou has focused on composing and recording ambient orchestral music — she released four albums between 2011 and 2018 (titled _No. 1_ through _No. 4_), also for Kranky. Each of the albums has been accompanied by short films made by Vantzou that are based on slow motion photography and that work to achieve a dream-like state for the audience. In this Fireside Chat, the composer and filmmaker discusses her Greek heritage, dream logic, epiphanies, working outside her comfort zone and much more.
