Sean Bourne isn’t an owner of Atlanta’s Wax N Facts, but with nearly four decades under his belt at the shop (it’s only been open for a hair longer than that), he’s as much a fixture at the store as the dusty records filling the bins. A veteran of the storied rock underground in nearby Athens, Georgia – one that Wax N Facts’ now-dormant in-house label, DB Recs, would help immortalize – Bourne has managed the shop through the many iterations of Atlanta’s music scene. To Bourne, the Little Five Points storefront has been a constant in an ever-evolving city whose sound is always on the move: From southern rock and R&B to post-punk, indie and the hip-hop that’s dominated Atlanta for the better part of two decades, the store has remained a pillar of community and an unparalleled place to dig for vinyl. Longtime customers remark that nearly everything about the shop – its look, stock and even that characteristic smell of old records – has been the same for as long as they can remember.
