Some 35 miles to the west of one of the world's most famous music cities, lies Ypsilanti, Michigan – _not_ one of the world's most famous music cities. Technical Equipment Supply, the tiny record and skate shop run by Todd Osborn and his son Kaito, isn't trying to change that. But it has made this town outside Detroit a destination for a particular type of record collector, due in large part to the shop's in-house label, whose titles can only be purchased onsite. Osborn – a veteran Michigan producer who's released on Rephlex, Running Back and Spectral Sound, amongst others – has twisted the arms of some famous musical friends and assembled exclusive releases from the likes of Madlib and Aphex Twin, which fanatics have traveled from ludicrously far and wide to cop. Discerning diggers will find plenty of other rare treats in the store, including expertly curated selections of old-school hip-hop, Detroit techno past and present, classic UK hardcore and much more.
