If you're deep into dance music, then there's a good chance you've come across Clone Records. The logo, an abstraction of multiplying human forms, appears on innumerable pieces of vinyl released through the multi-pronged record label; Clone is also one of Europe's most active underground music distributors. But to truly know Clone, you've got to pay a visit to the home base in Rotterdam, where you can comb through the bins for DJ delights from all corners of the electronic music universe. Started in the '90s by Serge Verschurr, the shop is a reflection of Holland's long-running love affair with styles like electro and Italo – it's been instrumental to bringing these sounds to a wider audience around the world. Here, longtime Clone staffer Pim discusses the shop's origins and presents iconic records from the likes of Drexciya, Detroit in Effect, Le Car and Larry Heard.
