Born, raised and based in Istanbul, Y.unan started playing music in 2004, in the Turkish city’s alternative music venues. With a focus on electronica, her early sets travelled through trip-hop, dub, IDM and experimental hip-hop, and she grew into a more house and techno sound when she joined the Dirty club crew in 2007. A year later she was a participant at the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona. Her tastes have gravitated toward the darker, more riotous side of things – although she’s known as one of the few heavy techno DJs in Istanbul, she can still throw an upbeat house, acid or disco party, when the feeling takes her. For Y.unan, it’s all about living in the moment.
