As a boy, Danish artist Julius Sylvest beat the drum as a part of the Tivoli Boys Guards marching band. In high school, he made music with his friends Lortehænderne, performed at underground parties and joined the Yo Fok house, a collectively-run studio complex and creative hub in Copenhagen. In recent years, he’s been producing music loosely styled as tropical bass. On stage, Sylvest emerges in a LED-decorated jacket, lighting up the stage as he flexes the drum machines and turntables. As well as producing and performing solo material, Sylvest counts his fellow Academy alumni as collaborators – he’s worked with Copenhagen’s ELOQ and Red Moon Ritual, Parisian hero Canblaster, Chicago’s Brenmar and NYC’s Boody, among others. Recently, he produced a remix for legendary band Blondie and is working on a full-length release with Red Moon Ritual.
