Belgian artist DJ Slow came to the 2013 Academy in New York City as a participant. In his home city of Brussels, he grew up listening to a heady mix of French electro house and pop, and US rap and hip-hop; his contemporary tastes are as much indebted to Daft Punk as Timbaland. In 2011, DJ Slow cofounded the label Pelican Fly with Richelle, and they have released music by Sinjin Hawke, Cashmere Cat and Canblaster, as well as their own solo and collaborative material. In recent years, on top of producing and DJing, DJ Slow has been working behind-the-scenes in the French and Belgian electronic music industry, largely as A&R for other labels.
