Producer and DJ Carrot Green’s sound is deeply connected to the indigenous sounds of his homeland, Brazil. In his sun-dappled and groovy way, he explores a multi-layered style of carioca – the affectionate name for the people of Rio de Janiero, and a kind of baile funk that is emblematic of the sonic and ethnic melting pots of modern Brazil – and blends it with Afro-funk, house, techno, soul and underground Latin American sounds. After coming to the 2013 Academy in New York as a participant, Carrot Green has released records on labels such as Disco Halal and Brazilian Shakedown, and he’s played at the São Paulo edition of Dekmantel.
