Legend has it that when Monica Lynch arrived in New York in 1978 she went straight from LaGuardia Airport to Studio 54. She soon found herself immersed in the city’s burgeoning hip-hop and dance music scenes at the seminal Tommy Boy Records, where as label president she shepherded the careers of Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force, Stetsasonic, Queen Latifah, De La Soul, Naughty by Nature and many others. Joining Chairman Jefferson Mao on the latest ep of Across 135th Street, Lynch shares a few classic (and lost classic) Tommy Boy favorites, and discusses her memories of this most special NYC era.
