Amir Abdullah has earned himself a reputation as a relentless discoverer of all things rare groove. Along with his longtime beat-excavating partner Kon on their *On Track and Off Track* mix series, the Boston-bred, New York-based musical authority has spent two decades unearthing breaks from the worlds of funk, soul, reggae, jazz, and everything in between. On his latest solo endeavor – a compilation for BBE Records, *Buena Musica y Cultura* – DJ Amir mines his collection of prized vintage Latin gems, including tracks from Wayne Gorbea, Orchestra Soledad and a previously unreleased tune by Fito Foster, traced all the way back to Detroit mainstay DJ Dez Andres. In conversation with longtime friend and show host Chairman Jefferson Mao, Amir shares tales from the wax-cavation trenches, cops to his admittedly horriblé Spanish and more.
