If you’re familiar with any number of classics from New York’s late '70s/early '80s dance music canon, then you’re undoubtedly familiar with the work of John Morales. Born and raised in the Boogie Down Bronx, his career as a disco mixer began when the extended edits of club tracks he’d been making for his own DJ use attracted the ears of producers Greg Carmichael and Patrick Adams. Soon thereafter John was recruited to mix the 12" single version of Inner Life’s “Caught Up (In One Night Love Affairs).” It was the first in a repertoire of mixes and remixes (both on his own and later with longtime partner Sergio Munzibai) of seminal dance cuts by Convertion, Logg, Lime, Class Action and many others that soundtracked a hallowed era of NYC nightlife. After a self-imposed hiatus from the music industry, John returned in 2009 with his M&M Mixes for BBE Records – an ongoing, celebrated series of reworks of classic material now up to its fourth installment.
