Description
As Gil Scott-Heron’s music partner through the entirety of the 1970s into the early '80s, Brian Jackson helped define the sound of conscious music in the post-civil rights era. His writing and musicianship, supported by the Midnight Band — on such classics as _Winter In America_, _The First Minute of a New Day_, and _Secrets_ — are beloved not only for their messages but for how they interweave jazz, soul, blues and pan-Afro-Latin rhythms with such dexterity. For this month’s episode of Across 135th Street, host Chairman Jefferson Mao welcomes Brian for an intimate conversation and in-studio performance, revisiting favorites, standards and spiritual jazz influences on the Fender Rhodes – direct from the Red Bull Music Academy studios in Berlin.
