Description
Two big segments in this program - One is a set of varied performances of the song sung under many variations of the title Dama Dam Mast Kalandar - a devotional song to the Sufi philosopher poet, and some might say, saint, Lal Shahbazz Kalandar. People of Islamic, Hindu, Sikh, and other religious backgrounds come in thousands to his shrine in Sehwan, Pakistan, especially on Thursdays. In detonating a bomb at the shrine on Thursday, Feb. 16 and killing at least 88 people, ISIL targeted a deep and abiding symbol of religious tolerance for almost 700 years.
The other big segment is a sampling of the distinctive world singing techniques that have been assimilated by the singing group Roomful of Teeth, along with some of the group's own performances, in anticipation of their appearance in the area at Bowling Green State University.
