Description
(PART ONE, go and listen to part two for an Isaac Hayes intro, and more Otis talk)
Rounder and The Big Boogie Chicken kick into the highest of gears to bring you the first of our series on the legendary Memphis label Stax Records, (as well as its subsidiary Volt) from their inception recording rockabilly and country tunes, through their early heydey developing and recording the breadth of Memphis' young local talent.
Among it all we find time to discuss the rowdy chitlin circuit tour of the teenage caucasian Mar-Keys, dirty business tactics, and the development of the proper soul ballad. Rufus Thomas, Booker T., Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and a host of lesser known Memphian acts and songs to get acquainted with.
