Rounder is joined by his fellow sojourners the Big Boogie Chicken and the Mighty Farfallone to bid farewell to the great Chris Strachwitz, head of the Arhoolie Record label for 60 years, who passed last month. Arhoolie is perhaps the greatest roots music label of all time, and its mission was to record, reissue, and disseminate the musical history of the American working classes in all its regional multivariate splendor. We talk Strachwitz's initial 1960 road trip/song-finding mission across the Southern states, how Strachwitz got Fred McDowell set for life, and consider what Lightnin Hopkins, Flaco Jimenez, and Rose Maddox have in common.
