Description
DJ Rounder introduces his new guest host, the Mighty Farfallone! Together they begin 45 Horsepower's first series in Latin American sounds, focusing on the influential Tico Records of New York City. Headed by mambo dance enthusiast and degenerate gambler George Goldner when NYC was going Cuba Crazy, Tico would sign many of the most innovative artists in the world of Afro-Cuban and Latin-American jazz and dance music, including Tito Puente, Machito, Mongo Santamaria, La Lupe, Celia Cruz and the Joe Cuba Sextet. We discuss Santeria, the mafia-backed record man Morris Levy, the mambo, the chachacha, the pachanga, and of course the boogaloo!
