Our guest for this episode is Dr.Thomas McConnel MRCPsych.
He is an award winning “higher trainee” old age psychiatrist based in Lancashire. Thomas has had a long journey to psychiatry via psychology, bio-medicine and surgery. Accolades he has gained along the way include the Tim Chard Case History prize in OBGYN , special commendation for The Andrea Litva prize for teaching not to mention 1st place at a research conference in Oxford.
We discuss Thomas’s conviction that old age psychiatry is one of the best fields to work in ; and the approach professionals take for caring for people with dementia. Our focus will be on defining contemporary understanding of cognitive disorders, how to treat them and a word on the quiet torment that carers for dementia face.
