Description
This month's show's theme is is Arabesque. This has multiple definitions, in art, it's 'surface decorations based on rhythmic linear patterns of scrolling and interlacing foliage', in ballet its the name of a position, it's also a generic term for Turkish music, and was used by classical composers such as Debussy and Schumann who probably used the term to indicate there were Arabic influences in their melodies. All Arabic melodic, harmonies and rhythms at play in this show. Most of the music is from genuine Arabic culture but also western music influenced by Arabic music. It's got a few tunes by Acid Arab who are based in Paris and whose style epitomises how much of the mix has turned out - a slow burn chug with Arabic drums against a Phrygian 303, plus a few other styles thrown in for good measure.
