DOWNLOAD THE EVOLUTION OF REGGAE – UK ISLAND RECORDS 1962 TO 1968 (PART 1) .MP3

By Pete Smith (Rare 60's Vinyl)
Basically this is my Island label collection, stretching from the first release in 1962 to the last in 1968. The first hundred or so are on the white Island label, the rest on the iconic red and white “dickie bow” label. What this series does is show you the entire development of Reggae through the 60s, from Calypso and Jamaican R & B (1961-62), mutating into Ska (1963-64), then a faster version of the Ska (1965-66), slowing down for Rocksteady (1966-68) and then speeding up again for Reggae (1968 onwards), Reggae being the name that eventually came to become a catch all name describe all Jamaican music. So you are going to hear all sorts in this series, from furious paces Ska to slow ‘last dance of the night’ ballads, and some one off left field releases such as Sam Houston’s almost country instrumental “My Mother’s Eyes”. The tracks are all in numerical order, starting at WI 001 and ending at WI 3160.
